Five Reasons to Become an RA

Every college campus is different. Small schools are different from big schools. Private institutions are different from public institutions. Yet, no matter where you attend college, one thing remains the same—this educational and social experience is not easy.

As students, we undergo a ton of stress within these first four years. A lot can happen to us in that amount of time. We might lose friends or family members, we might end relationships, we might begin relationships, we might not pass classes, we might have to switch our majors, we might experience changes in physical or mental health, or we might get homesick. We can never fully prepare ourselves for what challenges we may face. Continue reading

La Quinta, CA // A Photo Series

Last week was my first time ever visiting the La Quinta area of California, so of course I went a little photo crazy. I decided to throw together a series of some of my favorite images from the trip in sequence.

“Taking pictures is savoring life intensely, every hundredth of a second.” — Marc Riboud

Photos also make it simple to explain the trip without using a million words to describe everything. Easier on the eyes, if I do say so myself!  Continue reading

17 Self-Love Resolutions for 2017

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” –Buddha

New Year’s resolutions are notorious for being unsuccessful. Most of us think by now we shouldn’t declare these goals altogether purely because we think we can’t hold ourselves accountable. Or, we overwhelm ourselves with high standards (“lose 117 pounds, travel to 17 different countries, and make double salary this year!”) and get disappointed when we don’t reach them all.

Don’t start off the new year with that mindset.

50 Signs You Go to Linfield

The phrase “power of a small college” has never been more accurate.

For being such a diverse campus, we sure do share a lot of the same experiences. Our educational institution is unique, and there are just some things only Linfield students will understand. Relatable, funny, or whatever it may be, you know you go to Linfield if you find any of these to be true: Continue reading

FIVE FALL FAVORITES // Cold Weather Clothing

Here comes post number two in my FIVE FALL FAVORITES feature. In the first post I shared my top five favorite Starbucks drinks (click if you missed it), and now I’m showing off five fabulous fall outfits.

I’m not the most fashionable human being you will ever meet… and for one reason—I strive for comfy AND cute. If clothing is cute but not comfy (which is how most trendy styles these days are), I probably won’t be caught wearing it for more than an hour. If it’s just comfy but not really cute…well, this is usually what I sleep in and could spend all my lazy indoor days wearing. My everyday “out & about” outfits are an attempt to combine both spectrums.

Fall is probably the easiest season to achieve this comfy & cute style. Why? I can bundle up and layer on a million cozy clothing pieces feeling snug yet still looking like I tried. As an Oregon girl, fall apparel is basically my whole wardrobe 80% of the year.

Check out (and literally check out shopping if you so desire) these five outfits that represent comfort and cuteness, all while emphasizing the styles of cold weather clothing. With some tremendous help from my model slash BFF, Hannah, I put together some individual looks that are easily repeatable, intermixable, and most importantly—cozy!

Five Fall Favorites // Starbucks Drinks

FALL. The colors are changing, the weather is changing…and so are my taste buds. (Not really though—I drink coffee year round.) If you’re wondering what warm and tasty autumn beverage to get hooked on this season, then consider it time to terminate your thirst. If you haven’t already, try out one of my five favorite fall drinks from Starbucks!

(And no, pumpkin spice did not make the list.)

20 Good Things That Came From Donating My Hair

20-good-things-hairI wasn’t sure that I would be able to convince myself, especially a second time around. This wasn’t my first donation—although… that was back in the 5th grade when I only let 8 inches go. As a college student with a lot more hair to give, I decided I was (sort of) ready again. Before I knew it, a foot and a half of hair was GONE. Gone, and soon shipped off to someone who needed it!

How to Avoid Getting Sick in College

(Germs, they’re everywhere.)

Many of my residents are starting to get sick… which means it’s that time of year again, unfortunately! You already know Resident Advisor Mak did her research to help you avoid it at all costs. Colds and coughing go around like the plague on college campuses, and especially for freshmen who are exposed to unfamiliar germs. I’m no where near a certified nurse yet (and you can hardly call me a EMT), but I know how to battle off the bugs for as long as possible. I’m going on month two of college without any sicknesses (knock on wood), and here’s what has been helping me keep it that way!
